Washington
– Congressman Tim Scott (R-SC), a freshman class leader and successful
entrepreneur prior to being elected to Congress, today announced the launch of
his “Revitalizing America” series bringing together business leaders and
Congressional leadership such as House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) and
businessman Steve Forbes. The first event, the Encouraging Entrepreneurship
Conference, will be held at the U.S. Capitol on May 31, 2012.
Also
among those participating will be House Republican Conference Vice-Chair Cathy
McMorris-Rodgers (R-WA), House Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI),
Honeywell CEO Dave Cote, Dominos CEO Patrick Doyle, former Hewlett-Packard CEO
Carly Fiorina, priceline.com founder Jay Walker, Catherine Heigel from South
Carolina Duke Energy and Phil Byrd of the American Trucking Association and
Bulldog Trucking in Charleston, S.C. Additional speakers will be announced in
the coming days.
The
conference will serve to ignite the conversation between small business
leaders, entrepreneurs, CEOs and Congressional leadership as to how the
government can encourage entrepreneurship and allow our job creators to do what
they do best: innovate and grow. Seven different panels will lead the
conversations through topics such as health innovation, tax policy, regulatory
reform and where the American Dream stands today.
“Too
often, when the government sets regulatory and tax policy, there is
little-to-no discussion of the effects on the real world,” Scott said. “We must
start working with our job creators, instead of allowing bureaucrats in
windowless rooms to create policies that can truly make or break our future.”
Scott continued, “It is time to change the conversation in Washington. Job
creators in this country are not interested in partisan squabbling or the
politics of division. They want their government to reform the tax code
and streamline the regulatory burden so that their ideas, initiative, and
energy can be unshackled to create better products and companies.
By bringing together some of the top CEOs and entrepreneurs in the country, and
engaging them in substantive discussions with leading Members of Congress, I
believe we can work together to create a framework that will support the
entrepreneurial spirit in our country and lead to increased innovation,
employment, and productivity.”
Space
permitting, admission is free and open to the public. Media are also invited to
attend. Those wishing to RSVP are encouraged to email Entrepreneurship.Conference@mail.house.gov
with their name, organization and contact information.
